Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island Complaint #30

A Google User wrote in 2010

I was recommended by my vet to bring my dog in for a surgical consult for a luxating patella. I was told the consultation was going to be $140, didn’t have a problem with that. When I saw the surgeon all she did was listen to her heart beat and feel my dog’s knee and said yea she needs surgery. Well no kidding, this is why I am here, I expected x-rays to be taken, but nothing. Then they brought me the estimate of her surgery, low end was 2800 high end 3600. I thought this was very high for this type of surgery, as I did research. I also thought it was funny that they would do the x-rays the day of surgery, and how am I supposed to know that they are going to do everything for my dog that they are charging me for. So I found a friend who is a vet tech at another hospital, and I scanned her the bill. She said the high end at her place was 2800, and they don’t charge for waste disposal, surgical tools, and only charge one rate for everyday they have to keep the dog. Not two rates per day that this place wanted to charge me. I would just recommend that people do research of whats in your area, so god forbid if it’s an emergency you know which hospital to take them too.

(Many complaints on yelp were made due to lack of compassion, understaffed, exorbitant pricing,  price gauging. Also despite being an emergency facility 24/7 do not have emergency staff 24/7 and borderline negligent)
