Took my 9 week old dwarf hotot rabbit there after she had not pooped for a solid 10 hours. Was told by the ER doctor that we were very lucky because we caught her condition very early. The same ER doctor told us that our bunny needed to be admitted overnight and that there was a 90% chance that we would be able to take our bunny home in the morning. She told us that our bunny would be in good hands, that we were allowed to call for updates all throughout the night and that we would meet with their exotics vet tomorrow during our bunny’s ER discharge. I called throughout the night and was told that our bunny was doing well, that she was eating the Critical Care food but still hadn’t pooped. When I called 6am the morning she was promised she would be discharged, the ER doctor told us that she still had not gone to the bathroom and that they wanted to keep her again overnight. We met with the exotics doctor at 10am who told us a completely different story than the ER doctor – although the ER doctor and the staff on call had told us they would call us with any emergency or change in her health, and although I called about 5 times between 11P when we brought her there and 6am the next morning, the exotics vet told us that Lily had a bad night and that she went into hypothermia and almost died. He said that she would need to stay in the facilities for at least 3 days because that is how long the treatment usually takes. After 2 full days at this vet, I called in the morning to see how she was doing, still no poop but very alert and eating. However, when Dr. Melrose came in for the day, (only about an hour after my call), he called my boyfriend to tell him how she was in such poor health. He told my boyfriend she needed to get her stomach pumped. I told them both I wanted to put her out of her pain and put her down, however, Dr. Melrose was “uncomfortable” to do that because she was still so alert. After the procedure she finally pooped. She came home with a bunch of medicine and Critical Care food that we were responsible for force feeding her. She was home for one full day before I noticed that her behavior was odd. She had stopped pooping again from the night before when we brought her home, and she was grinding her teeth a lot and bobbing her head back and forth – all signs of extreme discomfort. When we brought her back to the ER that night we were told that she was fine, that she pooped in the back and that they put fluids under her skin to hydrate her. We brought her home yet again. She played with us that night and early in the morning. Here the cycle started again, and by the end of the night she was not pooping, bobbing her head, looking up at the ceiling and breathing weird. We took her to VMCLI yet again, saw the sweetest and most honest vet there, Dr. DeMicco, who straight up did not bullshit us to make more money off of us, but told us that our bunny was indeed suffering and that we could either put her down or continue hospitalization.

Bottom line is, after being promised the first night that Lily would be able to come home the next morning and then not having that happened put into perspective that she would not be getting better. I felt like her and I were nothing besides money to these people. The night we put her down we were sitting in the room waiting to say goodbye and the receptionist came in, while I was crying, to come collect the money to put her down. I felt that everyone there, including Dr. Melrose and excluding Dr. DeMicco, strung us along and led us to believe false hope.

(Many complaints on yelp were made due to lack of compassion, understaffed, exorbitant pricing,  price gauging. Also despite being an emergency facility 24/7 do not have emergency staff 24/7 and borderline negligent)
